Patient Stories
Mrs Anjaneyamma, who lived in viallage and had tabocco addiction, met us in one of the camps we conducted in Kanaswadi Village, Dadaballapur area. We realised that she had an oral swelling which she neglected for months and by the time we saw her, she couldn't even open her mouth and we found a very advanced cancer involving her buccal cavity. After lots of persuation, she agreed for treatment as there was lots of apprehension related to any kind of treatment. With only two cycyles of chemotherapy she showed remarkable improvement and now we will try to do a surgery for complete removal of tumor. Knowing her reluctance, it is going to be a challenging task but we are hopeful. This case teaches us that at times it is very important to bring patients out of their mental barrier especially who are not aware what latest treatment options can do to benefit them. Educating them and pursuation to a certain point is the key.
